Who we are
The English Classroom AB (organisation number 5592132194), Kalmar, Sweden, is responsible for the personal data described in this notice. You can contact us at support@the-english-classroom.com.
We follow the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Swedish data protection law.
What we collect and why
When you ask for the free lesson. We store your email address and, if you arrived from one of our adverts, which advert it was. If you tick the box, we also use your email address to write to you about the lessons. We rely on your consent for those emails, and on our legitimate interest in knowing which adverts work for the advert tag.
When you buy the lessons. Payment is handled by PayMongo. We receive your name, email address, the amount, the date and the type of payment method, but never your card or GCash details. We use this to give you access to the lessons, to help you if something goes wrong, and to keep our accounts. We rely on our contract with you, and on our legal duty to keep accounting records.
When you email us. We keep your message and our reply so we can help you. We rely on our legitimate interest in answering your questions.
Advertising cookies. If you accept cookies, the Meta Pixel records which of our pages you visit and whether you ask for the free lesson or buy. This information goes to Meta so we can measure our adverts and show them to people likely to find them useful. We and Meta are jointly responsible for collecting and sending this data; after that, Meta's own privacy policy applies. We rely on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time using the "Cookie settings" link at the bottom of every page. If you decline, no advertising cookies are set.
Technical data. Our hosting provider, Netlify, processes technical information such as your IP address and browser type to deliver the site and keep it secure. We rely on our legitimate interest in running a working, secure website.
Who we share data with
We use these services to run the site: Netlify (hosting and storing form sign-ups), PayMongo (payments), Meta Platforms (advertising, only if you accept cookies) and Google (email). We do not sell your personal data.
Some of these providers are outside the EU and EEA, in the United States and the Philippines. Where data leaves the EU, it is protected by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission's standard contractual clauses, or the transfer is needed to complete a purchase you have asked for.
How long we keep it
- Free lesson sign-ups: until you ask us to stop emailing you, and no longer than 12 months after your last contact with us.
- Purchase records: seven years, as Swedish accounting law requires.
- Emails with us: up to two years.
- Meta Pixel cookies: up to 90 days, unless you clear them sooner.
Your rights
You have the right to see the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it, to receive a copy in a portable format, and to withdraw consent at any time. Email support@the-english-classroom.com and we will reply within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten, imy.se). If you live in the Philippines, you can also contact the National Privacy Commission (privacy.gov.ph).
Children
This site is for teachers. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18.
Changes
If we change this notice, we will update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use data you have already given us, we will tell you by email.
